Hilarious Historian Leaves Witches in Stitches at Witches Night Out

by Janet Johnson

At our first annual Witches Night Out we were graced with Jim Santangelo and his charming storytelling talents.  He presented “The History of Whiskey in Utah” with everyone getting a chance to taste five different locally made libations.  We learned about the creation behind the label and its history that ties into the culture of Utah in very intriguing ways. Those of us who grew up in Utah learned some fun things we never knew about our home state.

Jim is a the founder of the Wine Academy of Utah.  He is a certified Sommelier, and Educator with WSET, the Wine and Spirit Educational Trust, an internationally recognized program. He run classes and events through the of the University of Utah as well as other venues around the state.

It was fun to try some of the tantalizing whiskeys coming out of the Beehive state along with gathering great information on their production, bottling and history. Jim was very engaging in his storytelling style and was an absolutely wonderful host. We not only look forward to next year “Witches Night Out” but we may get lucky enough to have Jim visit us again for a wine tasting event.
