Fall Planting for Mountain Valley Gardeners

As the vibrant hues of summer start to fade, it's time to shift our focus to the beautiful opportunities that the fall season brings for gardening in Utah. The cooler temperatures and crisp air provide the perfect conditions for certain plants to thrive. When planting in the fall you will get robust growth in the spring on trees, shrubs and some perennials as they get established in the favorable fall weather. Here are some excellent choices for fall planting in Utah:

1. Bulbs for spring blooms

2. Trees for October planting including shrubs and evergreens

3. Fall annuals

4. Perennials such as lavender, day lilies and coral bells
